Osteopathy for Adults

Osteopathy can be helpful for any situation which affects your wellbeing, health and mobility from an acute injury like a sprained ankle to long-term conditions such as chronic stress and its repercussions, or persistent pain. As every person is unique, so is their body. There is no ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to treatment. Osteopathy focuses on finding out what the underlying cause of your presenting problem is, which differs for each individual and the treatment will be tailored to your needs. Find out more about the way I treat and which conditions osteopathic treatment can help with.

Visceral Osteopathy.

Visceral Osteopathy

Visceral osteopathy refers to the treatment of our internal organs using a specific touch which aims to release tension in ligaments and connective tissue surrounding organs. Stresses from posture, trauma, diet and lifestyle can cause tension on the support system surrounding our organs. Visceral manipulations can be highly effective in the treatment of complex pain presentations, digestion/breathing disorders, women’s health problems and post-surgical scars. Visceral Osteopathy is a special interest of Susann, the Clinic Principal, and she has completed several post-graduate qualifications in the treatment of organs.

Women’s Health

Throughout a lifetime the female body undergoes significant changes, and faces unique challenges in relation to its hormonal and reproductive systems. During the childbearing years, osteopathic treatment can support women by relieving and improving musculoskeletal pains including back pain, hip pain, pelvic pain or pain due to the positioning and attachment of structures inside the pelvis, often experienced during menstrual cycles. Osteopathy can also assist with pelvic pain and pelvic floor issues.

Pregnancy & Post-partum

Pregnancy is a time of vast changes for the body. Ligaments soften and the load on tissues such as the spine and pelvis increase which alters posture. Osteopathy during pregnancy can support the body’s adaptations to pregnancy by alleviating pains and discomfort commonly occurring in the areas of the pelvis, pubic symphysis, back, hips, legs and shoulders.

After labour osteopathic treatment can support women recovering from childbirth by releasing adhesions of scar tissue and rebalancing pelvic asymmetries and thus help with pelvic pain or pain originating from the coccyx. Osteopathy can ease tensions in the body created by carrying a baby and help you learn to prevent them through postural advice.

Sport’s Injuries

No matter if you are an athlete, occasional jogger, or weekend warrior it can be frustrating if you experience any injury limiting your sport. Osteopathic treatment can help alleviate pain, accelerate recovery, assist in rehabilitation and prevention from further injury, so that you can return doing what you love.

Later Years

Mobility is the key to enjoying life and independence. As we age, wear and tear naturally start to occur, reducing the elasticity and motion of our musculoskeletal framework. Osteopathic care can help to reduce pain and restore movement which in turn enables you to remain staying active for longer. My treatment approach is gentle using low force techniques which makes it ideal for the elderly and might involve exercises to help every day movement as well as prevent trouble recurring.
